The blog this week is about a new rule/law that could be announced this year. If it comes into effect it could land you with a hefty fine if you flout it!
Over the course of 2018 there have been a list of new laws and regulations that have come into or are due to be introduced surrounding driving and the law. We have covered these in previous blogs such as New Driving Test Regulations, Smart Motorway Driving, Child Car Seat Regulations, Diesel Car Tax, Mobile Phone Use whilst supervising a learner Driver, Learner Drivers to be allowed onto Motorways and the new MOT regulations. One that has not become law but is currently being proposed is Pavement Parking Fines.
Since 1974 it has been illegal to park on the pavement in London, however this is set to change to cover the whole of the UK. The Department of Transport is looking into changing this law to ensure that pedestrians, those with pushchairs and those in wheelchairs are able to safely use the pavements. We have all seen social media posts where children and adults are having to go onto the road in order to pass a car that has been parked on a pavement, even more prevalent during the school run around schools and around areas where schools are nearby. If this new law is passed those who flaunt the rule could find themselves facing a £70 fine. There shouldn’t be a need to have to pass a law to enforce this – drivers should be more considerate to those who use the pavements and realise the danger that their inconsiderate parking poses to those who need to pass. However if this is what it takes to discourage pavement parking then we are all for it! Happy Motoring Folks!
