We like to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is about what you can do to get the most out of your tyres on your Volvo or Toyota. Tyres can be expensive to replace so you need to make sure that you get as much out of them as you possibly can. Great tyre care will ensure that your engine is not working too hard which in turn saves your wallet, as it means your fuel lasts longer, it also helps to reduce wear and tear on your engine saving money there too!
If you are unsure of the correct tyre pressure for your Volvo or Toyota check your owners manual or take it to your local independent garage. Having the correct tyre pressures will ensure that there is an even wear on your tyres ensuring that they last longer. If you go over one of the many potholes on our roads today, minimal damage will occur if you have the correct tyre pressures. If you find that you have a bulge in the tyre wall then your tyre is compromised and you need to get it changed – there is no fixing it.
As previous blogs have stated, tyres should be checked fortnightly. Why not make it habit when you fill up at the local petrol station to check your tyre pressures. It is best to check the pressures when your tyres are cold as opposed to at the end of a long journey. The minimum legal requirement is 1.6mm. Whilst doing this you can check the condition and tyre tread depth. A quick way to check the depth is to use a 20p piece. Stick the 20p in the tyre tread at various points on your tyre – if you cannot see the outer rim of the coin then your tyres are fine, if you can then it is time to get new tyres. Not only do you risk penalty points on your license and a hefty fine if your tyres are illegal, you also compromise your safety and that of your passengers and other road users. Changing your tyres is always going to be a much cheaper option than receiving a fine and risking yours and others health and safety.
