The blog this week is about avoiding bad driving habits that you may not even be aware that you are doing or realise the damage it is doing to your car. Read below to see one of the bad driving habits we have all probably done at some point in our driving lives:
When we started learning how to drive our driving instructors always told us to keep both hands on the wheel at all times – 10-2 if we recall! However over time many of us develop bad driving habits. One of these is resting your hand on the gearstick – we are certainly guilty of this one!
So why is this driving habit a bad one for your Volvo or Toyota, or any vehicle for that matter? Resting your hand on the gear stick whilst it is in gear may cause you to inadvertently apply some pressure to the selector fork, which is designed to make contact with a rotating collar for a short amount of time only. Eventually speeding up wear and tear of your gearbox mechanisms which in turn could lead to crunching gears or possibly the failure to select a gear you require. This will mean that you have to spend money on repairs that could easily have been avoided if you did not have this bad driving habit. If you are experiencing issues with your gear selection it is advisable to take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage for further investigation. Happy Driving Folks!
