The blog this week is about avoiding bad driving habits that you may not even be aware that you are doing or realise the damage it is doing to your car. Read below to see one of the bad driving habits we have all probably done at some point in our driving lives:
“Riding the clutch” simply refers to the act of keeping the clutch pedal partially pressed down. A driving act we are all probably guilty of doing at some point. So why is this a ‘bad’ driving habit to have? Partially depressing the clutch pedal pushes the pressure pad against the clutch plate but doesn't engage completely, therefore creating more friction and wearing out the clutch faster. Resulting in quicker and more costly clutch replacement than was necessary! The best way to avoid doing this is to keep your foot well away from the clutch (rest your foot on the off clutch footrest) unless you are actually changing gear. Don’t go round corners or slow down for traffic lights with the clutch semi-depressed. When performing hill-starts, leave your Volvo or Toyota in neutral with the handbrake on until you’re ready to move off. If you think you may have an issue with your clutch please seek the expertise of your local independent garage. Happy Motoring Folks!
