The blog this week is about common problems regarding why your Volvo or Toyota wont start. In this blog we will concentrate on your Starter Motor. Read on to find out more:
So what is a starter motor? Your starter motor in your Volvo or Toyota is an electrical device used to start an internal combustion engine. The starter motor is a part of the starting system on your car which consists of the starter, a starter solenoid and the battery. As you start your ignition a switch is turned, sending an electrical charge to the starter solenoid. This action sends a charge to the motor that cranks the engine until it starts. Once the engine starts, the starter motor clicks off and disengages the starter ring. If your car battery is flat this process will not happen. You will need to charge your battery or get a jump start to get your car started. Be aware though that some modern vehicles are not able to be jump started – if in doubt check your owners’ manual.
If you hear a click noise and all the lights on your dashboard are illuminated when attempting to star your Volvo or Toyota this could indicate that there is actually a problem with your starter motor and not a flat battery issue. You will not be able to start your vehicle if this is the case so you will either have to arrange for a private company to tow your vehicle to your local independent garage or arrange for your roadside recovery to take you to your garage for repair. Happy Motoring Folks!
