What Can I Expect From An Air Con Service?

  • Friday, July 26th, 2019

The blog this week is about what to expect from an air con service on your Volvo or Toyota. Read below to find out our tips:

Air con Service

There are some tips we can tell you that you can perform at home to see if your air con is in need of a service or some attention by a qualified and certified air con garage.

As temperatures are soaring this week plenty of customers are finding that they have an issue with their air conditioning and the phone is ringing off the hook for servicing. Opening your car door to a wall of trapped heat is most unpleasant, having to conduct your journey in that heat is pretty unbearable! As a lot of people don’t use their air conditioning throughout the year (you should use it in the winter to de mist your windows and prevent fluid sitting in the pipes) when it comes to needing it in these temperatures plenty of you are finding its either not working on the air is not coming out very cold. Most manufacturers recommend you service the air conditioning every 2-3 years and recharge with gas and lubricant. When the refrigerant is low the air conditioning will blow warmer air. As a result, your Volvo or Toyota’s air conditioning will have to work twice as hard to try and pump cold air which in turn puts strain on your engine and impacts your fuel consumption. Typically included in a car air conditioning service is an anti-bacterial clean, replenishing of the systems lubricant, evacuation of moisture from within the system, as well as a gas re-charge and a check for leaks carried out by a vacuum/dye test. It is estimated that a system can loose 10% of its gas a year so if you haven’t had a service and recharge for several years then its time you got your car booked in for a service. There is no point in having a re charge if you haven’t tested for leaks as you will literally be throwing money out of the window! One final point – make sure the garage you take your car to holds the required certification for performing air con re charges. Happy Motoring Folks!
