Why Should I Service My Car Regularly?

  • Friday, May 24, 2019

The blog this week is about the importance of servicing your Volvo or Toyota regularly. Servicing your car is not something that you HAVE to do such as an MOT. There is no legal requirement for you to perform regular servicing. However by not regularly serving your car you will invalidate any warranty that you have on the car and you will be devaluing your car when it comes to selling it in the future.

Why Should I Service My Car Regularly?

Your Toyota or Volvo owner’s manual will suggest when your particular car should be serviced - when they have done a certain number of miles, although this is by no means compulsory. By not adhering to the servicing schedule you run the risk of invalidating the warranty. One of the main reasons people choose not to service their cars is because they worry about the potential cost of the service. We advocate that preventative maintenance (regular servicing) is always going to be cheaper than reactive maintenance (repairs once something has gone wrong). If you perform routine checks and maintenance at home, before they can develop into much larger issues, not only will you save yourself money but you will also notice an improvement in the performance of your vehicle. These routine checks include checking the fluid levels (Windscreen Washer Bottle, Brake Fluid, Oil, Coolant etc). You can even change windscreen wiper blades and bulbs yourself, saving labour charges at the garage. Getting windscreen chips seen to straight away will also save you money (preventing cracks appearing) – this can usually be done FOC whilst you do your supermarket shop! Checking tyre pressures regularly will ensure better fuel efficiency and even wear – resulting in tyres lasting longer – saving money. When it comes to selling your car – a car with full service history is way more appealing to potential buyers than one that has no service stamps – this sets alarm bells ringing and drives down the price! Using an independent garage to do your servicing will save you lots of money over using dealerships – it is Your Right To Choose where you take your car for servicing and repair – one big cost saving is using independents! So next time your Volvo or Toyota is due its service book it in with a local independent garage! Happy Motoring Folks!
