The blog this week is about ensuring that you adhere to the manufacturer recommended timing belt/cam belt change. Read on to find out more:
Your timing belt/cam belt helps to run many of the fundamental parts of your car, including the vehicle’s engine, alternator, air conditioning system and the power steering pump. So in a nutshell it helps to ensure that all the moving parts within the engine fire at the right time for optimum performance.
The timing belt/cam belt is made of rubber with ‘rubber teeth’ and over time the rubber will degrade – you must check your Volvo or Toyota owners’ manual and stick to the recommended change schedule. Missing this change could result in very expensive consequences. Avoiding a timing belt/cam belt replacement could cause engine failure, broken or bent valves, cylinder or camshaft damage and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage. This damage will occur if the timing belt/cam belt fails whilst driving. These types of repairs could result in thousands of pounds in damage.
We do not advise that you change this belt yourself if you do not have automotive qualifications, tools and experience as you may cause damage to other parts of the engine if not fitted and aligned correctly. It is often best booking your Volvo or Toyota in at your local independent garage for this type of work. Happy Motoring Folks!
