Don’t Run Out Of Fuel

The blog this week is about the fuel in your Volvo or Toyota. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. Read on to find out more:
When you take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage for it’s MOT, you must ensure that there is sufficient fuel in the tank as the garage will need to check the emissions. In order to pass your MOT the fuel cap will need to be secure. If it does not fit properly or you think there may be a leak get this seen to before your MOT. You do not want an MOT failure for something easily rectified!
Always keep your fuel topped up, try not to drive around in your Volvo or Toyota with the minimum amount of fuel in your tank, you never know when you will be stuck in stationary traffic behind an accident, especially if the weather is particularly cold or it is raining, and you need heat to keep warm and stop your windows from fogging up. Yes, you use fuel just sitting there with the engine running! You normally have around 30 miles once the fuel light comes on to give you sufficient time to get to the garage to refuel. But try not to leave it so late before filling up. The petrol at service stations is always more expensive – because you have no other option – so try and fuel near home. If you are driving to unfamiliar places make sure you have sufficient fuel for your entire journey, you may not know where the next petrol station is. If you start panicking that you will run out of fuel whilst looking for a petrol station, then there is a greater risk of an accident because you are not concentrating. Try not to rely on your petrol warning light as it may not come on. If different people will drive your car or you regularly drive different cars it is good practice to put a green sticker on your fuel cap to help remember if it is unleaded fuel. Putting the wrong fuel in your Volvo or Toyota can be a totally avoidable expensive breakdown. We have had many a vehicle recovered to us that has been refuelled incorrectly – if you start your engine before realising your mistake then the financial consequences can be very costly. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
