Getting Your Volvo or Toyota Ready For Winter
The blog this week is about how to ensure that your Volvo or Toyota is in tip top condition ready for the harsher British winter. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring, insurance costs are rising etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. Read on to find out more:
Winter can be a hard season for your Volvo or Toyota but planning ahead can mean the difference between getting home safely and in once piece or being stuck by the roadside waiting for breakdown assistance. So we have put together a little checklist for you – some things you can do yourself at home and other things may need the assistance of your independent garage.
1) Check your screen wash regularly – you will be using it a lot more often during the winter – especially when the grit is dispersed on our roads. Use screen wash and not just water to prevent it from freezing.
2) Make sure that your wiper blades are in good condition – if there are any signs of perishing get some new ones.
3) Check all your lights regularly and change any bulbs that need replacing straight away – you will be using your lights way more during the winter to see and to be seen. Make sure that you clean them regularly too as dirt will build up very quickly during the winter.
4) Check your tyres at least fortnightly for tread depth and also for your tyre pressures – we have written many blogs on tyre health so if you are unsure what to do check back or pop in for a chat.
5) Coolant (or antifreeze) is vital so make sure that you are checking the levels weekly/fortnightly and top up when necessary.
6) Batteries can be weakened by up to 35% during the winter. If you have been having any problems starting your car or notice things like lights dimming etc then please pop in so we can take a look.
7) When did you last check your brakes? If you don’t know how many miles that you have done on your set of brake pads and discs then please give us a call. If your brakes are making a noise, feel spongy or your car is pulling to one side under braking then there could be an issue – take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage for an inspection. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
