The blog this week is about maintaining the health of your Volvo or Toyota, through an annual MOT. Now that the government has extended MOT’s for a further 6 months there will be cars on the roads that really are not roadworthy. The blog this week will concentrate on the importance of your MOT. Read on for our tips:
It is YOUR responsibility as a car owner to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy. If you are stopped and spot checked and your Volvo or Toyota is deemed un roadworthy YOU face a fine of up to £2500. If you have an accident and your car is deemed un roadworthy then you may also invalidate your insurance. You must check your car regularly throughout the year – checking tyres and pressures and brakes, lights etc. If you want to be a car owner then you should adopt the responsibilities and maintain your Volvo or Toyota throughout the year not just an annual MOT and hopefully service. We have written many blogs on all aspects of car maintenance, have a read through them or just ask for any help or advice. The things listed below are some of the items which are checked during an MOT test.
- Lighting and Signalling Equipment – do they all work correctly
- Steering – no rattles or juddering etc
- Suspension – coil springs intact etc
- Brakes – no obstructions and sufficient depth
- Tyres and Wheels – no splits or wear
- Seat Belts – do they all work correctly
- Body Structure – looking for signs of corrosion etc
- Exhaust and Fuel Emissions – no holes, CAT still there and emissions are within parameters
- Drivers Road Views – no cracks etc within your view
These are just some of the test checks carried out by the MOT tester. They are all vital components in your Volvo or Toyota that keep you, your passengers and other road users safe, whilst maintaining your cars’ functionality. If you are still using your Volvo or Toyota during the lockdown then please do the sensible thing and adhere to your MOT and servicing schedule. Happy safe motoring folks!
