The blog this week is about the changes that came into effect regarding child car seat laws? The rules surrounding car seat safety have changed significantly
and if you do not comply you could face a fine of £500. According to a survey carried out by confused.com 88% of
parents are still confused by the new laws. So what exactly has changed? Read on to find out more.
The new law states that the backless booster seats are banned for children that are under a certain weight. The new law states that they are not suitable
for children that are shorter than 125cm and weighing less than 22kg (this is an average height and weight for 6-8 year olds). The previous rule said
they were unsuitable for those children weighing less than 15kg.
Once your child reaches the required height of 135cm or reaches the age of 12 they are permitted to travel in a regular seat.
If your child is 15 months or younger they must travel in a rear facing seat. These seats must me replaced once the childs head reaches the top of the
seat. Those who are under 9kg must travel in a baby carrier not a child seat.
The new laws also state that children of all ages must not travel in the front seat unless there are no other seats available. This is not illegal but
is because it is far safer for the child to be in the back of the car.
