Cleaning Off Your Brake Dust Regularly

When a vehicle is kept in excellent condition, the routine maintenance will be easier, you will find that your car will be more fun to drive, and the vehicle itself will last much longer than it would if it was neglected through inadequate maintenance. Brake dust contains all sorts of unpleasant stuff. If you leave your Volvo or Toyota sitting for too long unused, they will start to tarnish and look rusty. Also, with the combination of general road grime (mud, salt, grit), moisture and heat from your brakes this will cause it to bake onto your wheels. Brake dust normally clings to wheels with static electricity so use a damp sponge and clean cold water to remove from your tyres. If more elbow grease is required use a mild detergent and make sure your rinse all residue with clean water before allowing to dry naturally. Whilst you are doing this it is an ideal opportunity to check your tyre tread depths – use the 20p method, and your brake pads and discs. If in any doubt as to the condition of either, take your car to your independent Volvo or Toyota Service specialists. If you had an advisory for your brake pads and discs when you had your last MOT did you action it when you needed to or did you ignore it?
