repair bills.
The blog this week is based around taking your Volvo or Toyota to Germany this summer. Did you know that there are different rules and regulations with
regards to what you need to make sure that your Volvo or Toyota is compliant for driving in a foreign country? This week we will concentrate on Germany
– a great destination for many Brits travelling abroad this year. We hope you find it useful and that you don’t fall foul to the local customs and
laws.

Firstly you must be 18 or over to drive your Volvo or Toyota in Germany. As with the other destinations we have previously written blogs about you must
carry a warning triangle in your boot in case of a breakdown along with ensuring you have had fitted headlamp converters. If you are unsure as to how
to correctly fit headlamp converters to your Volvo or Toyota pop along to your local independent garage where they will be more than happy to assist
you. You must also carry a first aid kit in your Volvo or Toyota – you can buy one online or pop into your local chemist. If you find yourself in the
unfortunate position of being involved in any type of accident in your Volvo or Toyota you MUST NOT leave the scene without getting help or offering
assistance as this is illegal. In built up areas the speed limit is 50kph – 31 mph - however there is not a speed restriction in place on the German
motorway system – we advise that you stick to around 130kph You will require a warning triangle, headlamp converters and a first aid kit. If you’re
involved in any kind of accident, it’s illegal to leave the scene without getting help or offering assistance. The speed limit is 50kph in built-up
areas yet, surprisingly, there’s no official speed limit on motorways. A top speed of around 130kph – 80 mph is recommended. With reference to the
drinking laws in Germany – if you are under 21 and have held your driving license for less than two years you cannot consume any alcohol and drive
your Volvo or Toyota. It is also worth noting that some cities in Germany have green zones and you cannot drive in the green zones unless you have
a badge – you can purchase these badges before you travel once you have your route planned or you can purchase them in the actual cities that require
them.
Driving abroad is always nerve wracking, not only are you driving on the other side of the road, you are also unfamiliar with the roads and you are going
somewhere you have never been before. Make sure you have a sat nav with foreign downloads and a map should anything go wrong with your sat nav. Leave
plenty of time to make your journey and always stop regularly for breaks. Ensure that you have told your insurance company you are driving abroad and
also look into breakdown cover if it is not already included in your insurance. In preparation of taking your Volvo or Toyota abroad make sure you
get your car checked over at your local independent garage before making your journey. There would be no worse way to start your vacation by breaking
down and facing hefty bills. .
