Easy Car Maintenance Tips
The blog this week is about some easy maintenance items that you can do yourself at home in-between your regular car servicing and MOT schedule. This should help to keep your car in great shape and help to keep repair bills down – something we all need to do during these tough economic times. Read on to find out more:
Changing Your Oil
If you feel happy that you can change your oil yourself then this should be done regularly to ensure your engines moving parts are well lubricated which should defer engine wear. This would then help to keep your engine parts in tip top condition resulting in maximum use. You should always dispose of used engine oil in the correct manner – not down the drain!
Check Coolant Levels
Regularly check your coolant/antifreeze levels – an overheating car can have very expensive repercussions!
Regular Car Checks
Check your brakes, tyres, tyre pressures, all fluid levels, lights etc regularly. Fortnightly will help you to identify a problem quickly such as regularly needing to top up your fluids or tyre pressures will highlight to you quickly that you have a potential issue. Acting quickly will help to keep repair costs down.
Wash Your Car Regularly
Keeping your Volvo or Toyota bodywork clean will help you to see if there is any damage or rust that needs your attention. Leaving rust untreated will only mean one thing – a more expensive repair or a devaluation of your car when it comes to selling it on!
Tyres
Making sure that your tyres are inflated to the correct pressures will ensure the longevity of the tyre. It’s advisable that you have the tracking checked to ensure even wear. With the state of our roads currently its important to protect other car parts with correctly inflated tyres. If you are constantly having to inflate your tyres this could indicate an issue.
