Look After Your Tyres

The blog this week is based around looking after they tyres on your Volvo or Toyota. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, along with increases in your weekly food shop, so following our tips should help avoid wasting your money and getting the most out of your tyres. Read on to find out more:

Caring for your car’s tyres will not only save you money, by reducing fuel consumption and tyre wear it will also keep it safe to drive your Volvo or Toyota. Especially now we are experiencing an increase in pot holes and poor road surface conditions on our roads. If your Volvo or Toyota tyres are in poor condition they could blow out on the motorway – not good when you are travelling at high speeds, or you could lose traction in wet or icy weather conditions causing you to skid and possibly cause a crash or hit a kerb, causing damage to your Volvo or Toyota or to another road user or possibly a pedestrian. Familiarise yourself with the recommended Volvo or Toyota tyre pressures which you can find in your Volvo or Toyota Car manual and check them regularly – every two weeks. This only takes minutes to do and you can do it when you fill up your car at the petrol station. What's a few minutes every couple of weeks in the grand scheme of things? We have said often enough in our blogs hw you can check the tyre tread depth of your tyres using a 20p. If you can see the outer edge of the 20p then you need to change your tyre. If you are stopped by the police with illegal tyres you face a rather costly fine along with penalty points - far more than the cost of the tyres! If you have an accident and your tyres are found to be illegal you could find yourself not being covered by your insurance company. Please just spend a few minutes every couple of weeks checking your pressures, wear and tread!

If your Volvo or Toyota Tyres are over or under pressure they will wear unevenly and will need to be replaced sooner – this means that you will not get the most mileage out of your tyres costing you money to replace them earlier than anticipated. If you are a driver that clocks up a lot of miles annually then this can cost you a lot of money unnecessarily. Check the tracking regularly too as wheels that are out of alignment wear unevenly – especially if you encounter multiple pot holes on your journeys or have hit a kerb. Your local independent garage will check this for you. If they recommend it then please do it. If you had an advisory in your last MOT for your tyres please make sure that you action it. Don’t forget about it till the next year.  Depending on your car, tyres can cost anything from £70 each – often a lot more, and when you replace tyres you normally do two together, so it makes sense to get the maximum mileage out of them in the first place. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
