The blog this week is about how you can make that tank of fuel last longer in your Volvo or Toyota. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. Read on to find out more:
TIP 1: The first tip is to look at the fuel consumption of the Volvo or Toyota you may be considering buying. Generally speaking the bigger the engine the more fuel it will use. So really look at the engine size and what you will be using your Volvo or Toyota for. There really will be a saving to be
had with regards to not only fuel but also things like insurance and tax if you say plumped for a 1.8 over a 2.0.
TIP 2: The second way you can save fuel would be to look at your driving style. We have written many blogs over the years about tweaking little things and habits. Driving a little slower down the motorway for example can really make a difference, changing gear correctly and being gentler with accelerating can really help that tank of fuel in your Volvo or Toyota go a little bit further. All these additional miles out of a tank of fuel can give you great savings over the year.
TIP 3: De-cluttering your Volvo or Toyota – we have written blogs about that too – do you really need to keep your golf clubs in the boot or your roof rack or roof box on? Extra weight in the car and extra drag on your Volvo or Toyota not only means that your engine is working harder, it also means that you will use more fuel. So, take the roof box or roof rack off and only use it when you need it and find another home for those golf clubs – you will save money in the long run – honest! There is a double saving to be had – if your car is not working hard unnecessarily you will have less wear and tear on your vehicle helping save money in repairs.
TIP 4: Walk – do you really need to jump in the car at every given opportunity – a bit of planning could see you walking to the shops or walking the school run. Not only will you save money by not filling up as often, but you could get a little fitter whilst doing it. If you are driving a diesel on constant short runs you could end up having a very costly issue with a blocked DPF.
TIP 5: Tyres – make sure that your Volvo or Toyota tyres have the correct tyre pressures. Not only will it help to reduce how hard your engine is working it will also save fuel. You will also prolong the life of the tyres. So, a triple saving there – just by ensuring you have the correct tyre pressures.
TIP 6: Coupons – Our supermarkets are always competing with one another – running offers on money saving vouchers – usually 5p off a litre of fuel if you spend £60 in store for example – however we have seen 12p off vouchers too! Shell also has a loyalty card along with nectar and clubcard. So take advantage of these and swipe every time you shop and fill up with fuel – you can save your loyalty points over the course of the year and get fuel vouchers too. We have customers who save all their loyalty points over the year, and it pays for their Christmas treats. We have customers who use their Amex card along with their loyalty cards and get double rewards. If you follow all our tips the savings can run into hundreds of pounds over the course of the year! These types of savings would be very much appreciated in the current economic climate. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
