The Volvo V40 D4 is a compelling proposition for business users!

This week the spotlight is on the Volvo V40 D4! The Volvo V40 D4 is remarkably sprightly: the V40 D4 has a power output of 190HP

Company car drivers often appear to be faced with a stark choice between driving pleasure and cost effectiveness when it comes to selecting their favoured mode of transport.
If they opt for the former, choosing a car with the sort of performance they can really get their teeth into, they may well expect to pay for the privilege.
That’s because benefit-in-kind income tax paid on a company vehicle is set according to CO2 emissions – and fast cars tend to emit more carbon than lower-powered alternatives.
Meanwhile, if they choose the sensible option, they might anticipate that life on the road will be rather dreary. After all, there’s surely not much fun to be had behind the wheel of a fuel-sipping, low-emitting car, no matter how much extra money it puts in your pocket.
Fortunately, Volvo says it has a solution to this problem, which means that company car drivers can follow their heart as well as their head. It comes in the form of the V40 D4 – a car that could well redefine expectations among business users.
As Volvo’s head of business sales, Selwyn Cooper, explains: “The manual V40 D4 has a power output of 190HP, meaning it is remarkably sprightly on the road. But its CO2 emissions come in at just 99g/km, putting it in the lowest possible road tax band.”
This is good news for company car drivers, for whom the V40 D4 represents the best of both worlds. In fact, because its emissions are so low, the car qualifies for one of the the best Benefit in Kind rates, meaning it would cost a basic-rate tax payer just £63.23 a month to own.
The low emissions are also a benefit for employers, because they ensure it is free to tax the car each year. And with an official combined consumption figure of 74.3mpg, there’s no need to worry about hefty fuel bills either.
Mr Cooper says the V40 D4 brings other financial benefits to fleet operators, courtesy of a comprehensive range of safety features that helps reduce the risk of accidents.
“This keeps repair costs to a minimum,” he argues, “as well as leading to lower insurance premiums.”
All in all, the V40 D4 looks set to revolutionise the way fleet buying decisions are made. It offers an unprecedented balance between strong performance and low running costs – making it a sure-fire hit among both company car drivers and their employers.
