The blog this week is based around whether you should purchase a set of winter tyres for your Volvo or Toyota.
Winter tyres will make sense if you live in a remote area where winter conditions are likely to be worse than in the towns and where this adverse weather
may last longer or where there may be a lack of gritters and snow ploughs.
In towns where it is more densely populated you may find it harder to justify the cost. This does however have to be a personal decision for yourself based
on the risk of bad weather, what your confidence level is when driving in snow and on ice and how much driving you have to do when snow and ice are
around.
Winter tyres are made by most of the main manufacturers – so you can shop around to find the best price. Some suppliers will also provide winter tyres
pre-fitted to a set of steel wheels also – so check when you are doing your price comparison.
If changing from alloy wheels to steel wheels you may have to change the design of wheel nuts used too. Ask the wheel supplier, your Volvo or Toyota manufacturer,
or your local independent Volvo or Toyota Garage for help and advice.
If you decide that you would like to fit winter tyres to your Volvo or Toyota then you must fit all four tyres. One pair will make your Volvo or Toyota
unstable and will affect the balance causing issues and potential added costs as tyre wear will be affected.
An alternative to having winter tyres and summer tyres could be having “All Season Tyres” – these tyres will perform better in the winter than your summer
tyres and will ensure that you do not have to swap tyres twice a year – saving you money in the long run. Your tyres are your personal preference –
make the decision for yourselves.
