Signs Of A Head Gasket Issue

The blog this week is about recognising the signs of a potential issue with your head gasket on your Volvo or Toyota. If you are aware of the signs of a faulty head gasket, you can prevent the issue from growing worse and possibly save money by getting your car to your local independent garage quickly. Read on to find out more:
- Overheating
A blown head gasket can also lead to the engine on your Volvo or Toyota overheating, which can lead to head gasket failure if it happens too often If you are having overheating issues, please take your car to your local independent garage for investigation. Don’t continue to drive around hoping the problem will disappear. Acting early can help save you money on more expensive repairs that could have been avoided.
- Power Loss
If you notice a drop in power this could be a sign of a problem with the head gasket. Get your Volvo or Toyota booked in for further investigation.
- Oil Contamination
Oil contamination can occur if there is an issue. This is brought on by coolant and oil mixing together. You should not continue to drive your car as you will be doing more damage to the engine parts that require the oil to lubricate them. If you are checking your oil levels regularly you should be able to spot if your oil looks different than normal and instigate quick investigation.
- White Smoke
The most typical symptom of a damaged head gasket is white smoke coming from the exhaust. The antifreeze that leaks past the gasket and into the cylinders, where it is converted to steam during combustion, is what causes the smoke. A blueish smoke might result from a leak from an oil channel to the cylinder. If you see either white or blue smoke from your exhaust, you need to take your Volvo or Toyota into your local independent garage for investigation. Please do not ignore these warning signs.
- External Fluid Leaks
A straightforward coolant or oil leak may emerge from a cylinder head gasket blowing in the direction of the water or oil path and the engine's exterior. If you notice coolant puddles or an oil puddle, then please take your car in for investigation before the problem manifests into a bigger more expensive issue. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
