Simple Tips For Better Fuel Economy

The blog this week is about tips to help you make that tank of fuel go that little bit further. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. 1)   Ditching the extra weight

One of the simplest ways that people burn more fuel than they need to by carrying unnecessary weight in their Volvo or Toyota. Many of us are victim to carrying more stuff than we need such as driving around with a roof rack or roof box that is not being used, or by leaving the golf clubs in the boot, or by leaving the stroller in the boot – just in case. Take out everything that is not needed and lighten the load – it really will make a difference over the course of the year.

2)   Check your tyre pressures

Tyres which are under-inflated by 15psi can use up to 6% more fuel! We have said in many blogs over the years that not only will your car be more fuel efficient with correctly inflated tyres, but they will also help protect your tyres from the ever increasing pothole damage we are seeing on cars being brought in along with helping to maintain the longevity of your tyres by having even wear on the tread. So not only will you save money by having a fuel-efficient vehicle you will also not have to change your tyres prematurely because of uneven wear. A definite win win. You should check your tyre pressures regularly.

3)   Drive slowly and consistently

You should always stick within the speed limits of the roads you are driving but also be mindful of the weather and driving conditions – less haste. Jumping up and down on your brakes regularly will not only result in you needing to change your pads and disks more often but you will use more fuel – smooth consistent driving is the answer.
