The blog this week is about driving safely at night. Your morning commute to and from work is most probably being done in the dark at the moment so by following these handy tips should help to keep your journeys safe ones. Our blog today will give you some information detailing what these tips are. Read on to find out more:

1. Ensure That You Clean Your Windscreen
Dust, dirt and streaks that you might not notice during the day can build up therefore it is important to clean your windscreen both inside and out on a regular basis. Check your windscreen washer bottle regularly and keep it topped up. During icy periods there is a lot of grit on the roads, smearing your windscreen making it difficult to see.

2. Check All Your Lights
Are your headlight and taillights in good working order? What about your indicators, reversing lights, brake lights and fog lights? A bulb can blow at any time, so it is prudent to check your lights regularly. Don’t drive with your fog lights on unnecessarily – read our blog about the fine that you could incur when incorrect use of this light is discovered.

3. Don’t Look Into The Headlights Of Others
Try not to look directly into the lights of oncoming traffic, this can dazzle you. If you find that you are regularly being dazzled by the headlights of others there are night vision glasses that you can try. Take a look online and see if they are for you.

4. Increase Following Distance & Reduce Your Speed
In the dark it can be more difficult to judge the speed of others and the proximity of other vehicles. Increase the distance between you and the car in font and reduce your speed.

5. Breakdown Pack
If you breakdown try and pull over in an illuminated area. If this is not possible ensure that you have your hazard lights on, your emergency triangle out and you are away from your vehicle, whilst you wait for assistance.

6. Look Out For Cyclists & Pedestrians
Be mindful that seeing cyclists and pedestrians is more difficult in the dark, and even more difficult in the dark and rain. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
