Here at ACC UK Ltd, Independent Volvo & Toyota Car Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists based in Farnborough, Hampshire, we like to furnish you
with handy hints and tips with regards to saving money on your ever increasing annual motoring bill, along with ways to maintain your Volvo or Toyota
in tip top condition between servicing schedules. This week our blog is centred around reducing your insurance renewal costs.

Car, Van and Motorhome insurance can be a major cost for many motorists who are already facing higher fuel prices, paying for regular MOTs and servicing
of their Volvo or Toyota without considering the additional costs of incidentals throughout the year such as replacement tyres and unexpected repairs.

Never assume the renewal cost that drops on your doormat is necessarily the cheapest insurance available to you, we have found that renewal customers don’t
necessarily get the best deal, insurance companies are consistently chasing a new customer. We have found when using price comparison sites that our own insurance company gives us a better quote online as a new customer! When we questioned them on the phone they said that
it would be cheaper to not renew the policy but to take out a new policy! In our line of business we have found that if you look after both sets of
customers – new and old – your business will grow – maybe one day the insurance companies will follow suit! When using a price comparison site always
make sure that you compare like for like – same excess etc so you get a true price comparison.

Another way to reduce the annual insurance premium would be to increase your voluntary excess – what you must pay out when you make an
insurance claim – as a general rule of thumb no excess or a very small one would result in a higher annual premium – however if you cannot afford to
pay out the excess in the event of a claim do not ramp it up or you will find yourself in a sticky situation.

Don’t be tempted to add on lots of things to your policy – often your bank will cover things like car breakdown cover etc with your bank
account, and your home insurance may cover you for things too – check those policies before adding things like legal cover etc.

Make sure you purchase a policy with the right annual mileage – if your car is for school runs and generally running errands you may be
surprised at how little mileage you do over the course of the year – in households with two cars it is often one car that covers the majority of the
miles for day trips, weekends away etc and the smaller car stays at home – check your annual MOT certificate to work out the annual average mileage.
A car doing less miles is often cheaper to insure.

Finally – if possible pay your insurance for the year – try and avoid paying for it monthly as there is often an interest charge attached
to paying for it this way which will ramp up the cost.
