ACC UK Ltd, Winners of The Independent Garage of the Year 2015, Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire like
to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is based around the types of things that are addressed on your Volvo or Toyota annual servicing schedule.
Helping to keep your driving costs down is partly dependent on how well your Volvo or Toyota runs. Ensuring that you adhere to the service schedule on
your Volvo or Toyota as well as performing basic checks in between the service schedule will help to keep your Volvo or Toyota in good condition which
in turn will help to keep not only the running costs down but will also ensure that you reduce the need for expensive repair bills when there is a
failure of some sort. Remember that preventative maintenance is always cheaper than reactive maintenance.

Some of the things that will get checked during your servicing schedule include:
Engine Oil – this is essential to the running of your engine – if you do not address a leak, or don’t top up your oil regularly (check
at least monthly) the damage could be serious and very costly.
Coolant – this should be checked regularly as it is there to prevent the engine from over heating in the summer and freezing in the winter
– you should check this when you check your oil levels and top up if required.
Brake, Transmission and Power Steering Fluid – all essential to the correct and safe operation of your Volvo or Toyota – check these levels
and top up if required. One of the benefits of checking your fluids regularly is the fact that you could spot an issue early – ie if you are always
needing to top up then it would be advisable to take it to your local independent garage and get it checked over for possible leaks by a professional
mechanic.
Air Filter – A clean and unblocked air filter means that the engine has good air flow – if it has not been changed for a long time you
are asking for trouble!
Timing Belts – There are specific times stipulated for changing belts – adhere to the recommended timescale – a snapped belt can wreck
your engine – very costly repair!
Hoses – Check for any signs of cracks and leaks – these need replacing regularly to ensure fluids are being circulated to the engine etc.
Battery – if you change your battery yourself ensure that you dispose of it in the correct manner – do not put it in the bin!
Tyres – A well inflated tyre
with the correct depth will not only ensure that you get the most out of a tank full of petrol but will also ensure that your tyres last as long as
possible and you risk less damage to the suspension etc when driving over potholes. You will also have more control of your Volvo or Toyota in wet
or icy weather.
Taking 20-30 mins every 2-4 weeks to check over your Volvo or Toyota is time well spent in comparison to your car breaking down and being faced with a
potential repair bill you can ill afford. Ask yourself this question – Can i afford to be without my car or to replace/repair my car in the event that
the engine blows up?
