and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is about what does the Catalytic Converter Warning Light mean, if it comes on, on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota? Few people
actually take the time to go through their Volvo or Toyota owners’ manual and familiarise themselves with what the various lights on their dashboard
mean. They seek assistance only when an issue arises. However many people ignore these lights also, possibly in the hope they may just go away. There
can be expensive consequences to ignoring some of these lights along with safety issues. Please don’t ever ignore a warning light!
Not all Volvo’s and Toyota’s come equipped with a Catalytic Warning Light. If you have one on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota and the light remains
illuminated once you start your journey it would indicate that there is a problem with the catalytic converter. The problem could be that it has somehow
become damaged, it has possibly overheated or it could be malfunctioning. There is no way of knowing unless you take your Volvo or Toyota to your local
independent garage for further investigation. If you do not have this specific warning light on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota then the Engine
Management light could come on instead. If this happens you may find that there is reduced power in your Volvo or Toyota. Either way, your first port
of call should be to your local independent Volvo or Toyota specialist. They will be able to pull up the engine fault codes to see exactly what the
problem is and then rectify. To continue to drive your Volvo or Toyota with a faulty catalytic converter will reduce your MPG and prevents the engine
from revving and you will have problems accelerating. We have seen serious engine damage to vehicles that have been driven with faulty or broken catalytic
converters. This will always result in a more costly repair than if you had taken your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage in the first
instance. Do not ignore this warning light!
