The blog this week is about what does the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) Warning Light mean, if it comes on, on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota?
Few people actually take the time to go through their Volvo or Toyota owners’ manual and familiarise themselves with what the various lights on their
dashboard mean. They seek assistance only when an issue arises. However many people ignore these lights also, possibly in the hope they may just go
away. There can be expensive consequences to ignoring some of these lights along with safety issues. Please don’t ever ignore a warning light!

DPF Warning Light

Today most modern diesel Volvo’s and Toyota’s are fitted with adieselparticulate filter (DPF). This
filter acts to remove the harmful soot from the exhaust gases to reduce emissions. If the DPF is faulty or needs regeneration it will trigger a warning
light on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota. Please check your owners handbook to familiarise yourself with what it looks like. If this light comes
on it is imperative that you take your Volvo or Toyota to an Independent Garage to get it investigated. Leaving this warning light in the vain hope
that it will switch off could be a very expensive mistake to make. A blocked DPF can cause serious damage to the engine of your Volvo or Toyota. Replacing
a DPF can cost a lot of money – sometimes in excess of £1000. Depending upon the severity of the blockage, an independent garage may be able to force
the regeneration of the DPF and unblock it, however the longer that you leave it, the more soot will build up on the filter so it really is imperative
that you act immediately.
