The blog this week is about what you should do if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of breaking down on a National, Secondary or Minor Road. There are some slightly different rules to follow from those of our blog last week concerning motorways and dual carriageways. Read below to find out our tips for keeping safe:

What To Do If You Breakdown on a Dual Carriageway or Motorway

Firstly pull over as soon as you are able to as far to the left that you can. Put on your hazard lights and if poor light requires it – your side lights also.

As with faster roads, it is safer to exit your vehicle from your passenger seat. Put on your high vis jacket and get your warning triangle out of your boot. Place your warning triangle about 50 meters behind your Volvo or Toyota to warn oncoming traffic that there is an issue ahead and they can slow down when approaching.

Once you have done this get back into your car and put your seatbelt on. At this point you can then call for breakdown assistance. Stay with your vehicle until help arrives.
