you can see by the numbers it really is quite a common mistake to make, and usually happens if you have recently purchased a new car or are driving
a car which is not your regular car. It is more common for the mistake to happen when accidently putting petrol into a diesel car because the standard
size of the nozzel on a diesel pump is actually bigger than the petrol nozzle therefore you would experience difficulty getting that nozzle into your
tank. Therefore we decided to write our blog this week on what to do if you accidently misfuel your vehicle.
If you realise you have filled the car up with the wrong fuel, do not turn on your ignition or start the engine. Call your roadside breakdown
company for assistance, some of you may have Green Flag cover with your current bank accounts or with your car insurance – call them for assistance.
They will drain your tank out for you and luckily no damage will occur because you did not start the engine. Draining the tank may cost you around
£200 depending on who you call out to assist you and what type of roadside assistance you have. If you are unfortunate enough to start your Volvo or
Toyota and drive off the petrol forecourt then stop immediately, unless your car stops for you of course! Diesel in a petrol tank is less damaging
than petrol in a diesel tank. If you are unfortunate enough to have started your car and driven it then the repair bill may run quite high depending
on what damage has been done to the engine, pumps and hoses. You may find yourself needing a new engine. Some insurance policies may cover the costs
