What To Do If Your Car Fails Its MOT

The blog this week is about the steps you need to take in the event that your Volvo or Toyota fails its MOT. Don’t panic – the garage will explain everything to you. Read on to find out more:

If your Volvo or Toyota fails its MOT, the garage will give you a VT3O Certificate listing the reasons for the failure of the MOT. You
will need to get the items fixed and then arrange a partial MOT retest. Your local independent garage will give you a price to fix these items. If
you are not happy with the price quoted you can arrange to take it elsewhere and then arrange for the re-test. Some independent garages will normally retest for free if they have carried out the work or if you have taken it elsewhere for repairs then there could well be a partial retest fee when you bring it back. You normally have 10 days to get the car fixed before the MOT retest.

If you find that your MOT has expired on your Volvo or Toyota it is illegal to drive on the public highway and you could find yourself being prosecuted if found doing this. The only exception to this is if you are driving your car to the garage for an existing pre booked MOT. It is also worth noting that driving your Volvo or Toyota without a valid MOT will also render your insurance invalid – so don’t do it! Some independent garages will send out a reminder that your MOT is due – failing that you can always set a reminder on your calendar on your phone or computer or you can register to receive MOT text reminders via the Government website.
