expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is about the costs and perils of failing to maintain your Tyres on your Volvo or Toyota. Our blog this week will be centred around ignoring
regular routine tyre maintenance for your Volvo or Toyota and the cost implications associated with it. It really is foolhardy to miss your regular
servicing schedule and to ignore repair aspects for problematic issues. It is ALWAYS going to cost more to repair than if you had done preventative
maintenance on your Volvo or Toyota.
The tyres on your Volvo or Toyota are responsible for keeping your car on the road and moving in the direction you are driving. You must perform regular
checks on your tyres to ensure they are in tip top condition. The checks you should perform are to ensure they are inflated to the correct pressures
– these can normally be found in your Volvo or Toyota owners handbook. If your tyres are inflated correctly the tread will wear evenly. Underinflated
tyres has a negative impact on fuel efficiency – so it will cost you more in fuel as the car engine is having to work harder. Also check for any bulges
in the sidewalls of your tyres and check the tyre depth using the 20p method. This is when you put a 20p in the tread and the outer rim around the
20p is not visible – your tyre tread depth is fine – if you can see the rim then you need to change your tyres. This sort of maintenance is more of
a cost to your time than a cost to your pocket. Driving with tyres that are below the legal tyre depth will cost you money in fines! However looking
after your tyres and ensuring they have the correct tyre pressures will ensure they last longer and wear more evenly which in turn means they will
not need to be replaced as often as tyres that have not been maintained – so a saving to be made just for 10 minutes of your time once or twice a month.
To change the tyres on your Volvo or Toyota could cost upwards of £500. If you were to have an accident in your Volvo or Toyota and your tyres were
found to have insufficient tread then you could find yourself facing all sorts of problems. If you are unsure about the safety of your tyres then take
your car to your local independent garage where they will be able to give you some expert advice.
