Anti-freeze is the coloured fluid which is found in cars radiators. It is used to prevent your engine and radiators from freezing in the winter and therefore is vitally important during these cold months.
You should check the levels of your vehicles anti-freeze are between the maximum and minimum on a weekly basis. This will help avoid potential damage to the engine or radiators which will be much more expensive to fix than the couple of pounds it would cost to buy anti-freeze. Here at ACC UK Ltd we have some handy boot bags which you can keep in the boot of your car, which contain antifreeze, coolant and oil. This is all premium grade and costs only Β£9.99!
However, bear in mind that most car manufacturers fill modern vehicles with longer lasting anti-freeze which should not be mixed with traditional solutions. If you are unsure about what fluid to put into your vehicle, it is recommended that you consult your local independent garage or a qualified mechanic.
Oil levels
Your carβs Engine Oil levels are another thing which you should keep an eye on with weekly checks. If you notice the oil levels dropping it is advised to book your car in with your local independent garage to check for signs of leaks. Low oil levels can cause significant damage to your engine as oil is basically the blood flow which passes through your cars system. The oil helps to keep all the necessary moving parts of your engine lubricated to avoid rubbing and wear which could eventually result in a damaged head gasket and total engine failure - an extremely costly repair which can easily have been avoided if a few minutes is spent a week checking levels. During routine service schedules your local independent garage will check and change oil and filters - therefore it is important that you maintain your service schedule.
Oil levels can be checked using your dipstick which has two marks indicating both a maximum and minimum level. Make sure that your oil levels are between these two points at all times. Do not overfill your oil. If you are unsure which oil to use for your make and model please feel free to give us a call or pop in with your car - we hold a large stock of high quality oil ready for purchase.
