Achieving Good Car Suspension Health

The blog this week is based around maintaining the health of the suspension on your Volvo or Toyota. Ensuring that you carry out regular maintenance on the various suspension components is vital when it comes to optimum vehicle safety. Worn suspension components can increase your stopping distance by up to 20% - vitally important when trying to avoid a potential accident. Read on to find out more:

What should you check?

1.Your Volvo or Toyota’s suspension components should be checked monthly for any signs of physical damage and excess wear. This is very important as there are an ever-increasing number of potholes on our roads. Incorrectly inflated tyres on your Volvo or Toyota can lead to an increased risk of actual physical damage to the suspension – so ensure that you maintain your tyre pressures also. Check your owner’s manual for the correct pressures and top up as and when required. We have had an alarming number of broken coil springs being presented in the garage over the last year!

2.You should also regularly check the shock absorbers on your Volvo or Toyota looking for signs of fluid leaks. If you park on a drive you should inspect the area where your car has been – looking for signs of residue. If you do not know how to check these just ask your local independent garage for help and advice – they will be more than willing to show you how you can carry out this check.

3.If when driving your Volvo or Toyota you notice steering vibration or a noise when stopping that wasn’t present before then take your car to an Independent Garage. Let the experts check for faults, damage or wear and tear. Please do not ignore these issues – they will not go away without attention!

Maintaining your Volvo or Toyota’s service schedule will help to ensure that your car and its components are in good condition – however you should still periodically check your vehicle between your service schedule and your MOT – a well maintained vehicle is a less costly vehicle. It’s always easier and cheaper to do preventative maintenance on your Volvo or Toyota than to do reactive work once a bigger problem occurs. We cannot say this often enough. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
