The blog this week is about changing your brakes in a timely fashion to avoid additional costs. We see too many cars coming in with non-existent brakes which require additional parts to fix. So please try to avoid driving your Volvo or Toyota with brake pads that need changing. Read our tips:
Your brakes are there to slow your vehicle down and ensure it comes to a safe stop. Pretty important, right? So why do so many drivers leave it to the last minute to change them? Brake pads are designed to be replaced every 20,000 miles – however this totally depends on a variety of factors such as the car, driving style, type of driving being done etc. Is your Volvo or Toyota presenting with any of the following issues? If so go straight to your local independent garage:
- If your Brake Pads are less than 3mm thick – do the 20p test – they need changing immediately.
- If you hear screeching/squealing when you engage your brake pedal this could indicate an issue.
- Are the brakes making a grinding noise? This is a sign that the brake pads are worn and that they are causing friction between the disc and calliper.
If your brake pads are deteriorating, it will not only affect the car’s braking power, but it will also cause the whole braking system to suffer. In particular you may end up having to replace the rotors if you have been driving around on worn out brakes – this is totally preventative and costs you a lot more money in the long run – unnecessarily! Maintain your brakes and replace them BEFORE a problem presents itself! Regular servicing will highlight when your brakes may need replacing. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
