Running a car has become a major expense, especially with the ever-increasing fuel prices. Everyone wants to save money on a monthly basis, maybe for that annual holiday or your children’s university fund or for home improvements. Maybe it is to counteract the constant increases in your weekly food shops or increased utility bills. Read on to find out more:

If the Check Engine Light comes on, on the dashboard of your Volvo or Toyota you should seek some professional help from your local independent garage. You really should not ignore this warning light. It’s called a warning light for a reason – it is alerting you to the fact that there could be a problem with your engine.

Nowadays every new car now comes with On Board Diagnostics. On Board Diagnostics is a system that registers faults within your Volvo or Toyota or any car for that matter, connected through sensors all over your Volvo or Toyota, the engine, fuel and emissions systems. There are thousands of codes so the only way to pinpoint exactly what the problem is, is to take it to your local independent garage and get them to hook it up to their diagnostic kit, like Vida for example, to identify the fault code and action the problem. Once the issue has been identified the garage will advise you on how they can fix the fault and give you a cost for repair. Once the problem has been fixed they will clear down the fault codes and reset the system. The thing to do is not panic or ignore it. Quite often than not it can be something so very minor and inexpensive. Do not continue driving your Volvo or Toyota ignoring the light hoping it will go away – modern cars nowadays are very sensitive – so get it checked out ASAP at your local independent garage. Ignoring warning lights could lead to expensive repair bills – better to be safe than sorry. It is a warning light alerting you to a potential problem, so getting it checked out quickly can help avert a bigger issue. Warning lights do not need to be an expensive problem. For example, the oil light comes on to warn you if you are running low on oil. Top up your oil immediately. Ignoring this light and continuing to drive your car will lead to a very very expensive problem! Of course, getting your Volvo or Toyota regularly serviced and maintained will help maintain the health of the engine. We cannot say enough how proactive maintenance is always going to be more cost effective than carrying out reactive repairs! Look after your cars folks they are likely to be the second most expensive purchase you make after buying a house! Can you live without the use of your car? Can you afford to buy another car if a repair bill is too expensive?  Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
