The blog this week is based around why missing your regular servicing schedule is not something that you should risk doing. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, along with increases in your weekly food shop, so following our tips should help avoid wasting your time and money. Read on to find out more:

We know that when money’s short it really can be tempting to skip servicing your Volvo or Toyota. However you really do run a high risk of having more expensive repair costs further down the line. The average cost of a basic car service on your Volvo or Toyota is around £125 – you will see below that this cost is far smaller than the cost you will need to pay if one of the below happens due to neglecting your annual service. Yes we understand that some of your services will be way more because there are more parts that need replacing as they come to the end of their life, however the costs will still come in less than having to replace failed parts and labour after the breakdown/failure has occurred. The service schedule of your Volvo or Toyota needs to be maintained as parts that get changed are changed because they have come to the end of their life. These items include the oil and filters, the oil becomes dirty and the filters become clogged and ineffective. Timing belts only have a certain shelf life. Missing this can be catastrophic to the health of your engine! However a fully serviced and maintained vehicle will have a better resale value when it comes to selling it along with being more reliable and less likely to break down. Consider car sharing, walking and public transport to keep the miles and cost down. Always shop around for cheaper insurance renewal deals and check to see if your current bank account covers you for breakdown service to keep your costs down further. Using an independent garage will also save you money on your annual servicing over a dealership.

See below as an example of costs:

  • engine exchange – from £2,575
  • cylinder head gasket – from £520
  • new radiator – from £430
  • new water pump – from £240

If you were to go to a Dealership these costs will escalate as the average cost of an hourly labour rate from a dealership is £110+ , from an Independent Garage the average hourly rate is £78, here at ACC UK Ltd we are lower than that! So cost savings can be had by using a local Independent Garage. We cannot stress the importance of preventative maintenance over reactive repairs. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
