Petrol stations up and down the country sell ‘high performance' fuels, yet evidence suggest that there is little or no performance difference for most standard cars today to warrant spending extra on filling up your tank.

Therefore an instant way of saving on your ever increasing motoring costs today is not to fill up with the high performance fuel on offer unless of course you have got a sports car that you've been advised by the manufacturer will actually use the petrol correctly.

The AA does suggest that if you want to use the higher performance fuel then fill your tank three times in a row with this fuel and then revert back to normal fuel. This may help you keep your engine clean and help with engine efficiency.
