Don't buy premium fuels for standard cars!
The blog this week is about whether you should buy premium high performance fuel for your standard Volvo or Toyota? Is there going to be an advantage to the health of your engine by using these more expensive fuels? Read on to find out more:
Petrol stations up and down the country sell ‘high performance' fuels, yet evidence suggest that there is little or no performance difference for most standard cars today to warrant spending extra on filling up your tank. So, basically, in a nutshell unless you have a vehicle that is classed as a high performance vehicle….think Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari and the like!
Therefore, an instant way of saving money on your ever increasing motoring costs today is not to fill up with the high performance fuel on offer unless of course you have got a sports car that you've been advised by the manufacturer will actually use the petrol correctly.
The AA does suggest that if you want to use the higher performance fuel then fill your tank three times in a row with this fuel and then revert back to normal fuel. This may help you keep your engine clean and help with engine efficiency. However other experts within the industry say that in most cases, using a higher-octane fuel offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. A better way to help preserve your engine and its efficiency is to carry out regular servicing (as advised by the manufacturers’ handbook) and to ensure that your oil is changed regularly.
