Don’t Miss Your Timing Belt Service

The blog this week is about what damage could be done to your Volvo or Toyota if you fail to replace your timing belt in a timely manner. So, what is your timing belt? Your timing belt (or cam belt) is there to ensure that your camshaft turns at the right speed in relation to your crankshaft. The belt is made of rubber and has ‘teeth’. Understandably over time these teeth will wear down and the rubber may begin to perish. The rubber may also become slack as it stretches over time. It is not designed to last forever due to the nature of the material understandably. The timing belt needs to be replaced at various intervals – this will
be stipulated in your owners’ handbook during certain service schedules. Missing this (to save money) is just something not worth contemplating! A failure of your timing belt can occur at any time and could result in you having to fork out for a new engine! The costs for a new or second-hand engine along with the labour costs associated with doing the job are very high – in the 0000’s. We urge you to not miss this important routine maintenance on your Volvo or Toyota. Can you afford to do this or even scrap your vehicle and buy a new one? It’s definitely a cost that you don’t want to incur which could have been easily avoided. Likewise, if you are purchasing a second-hand car – check the owners’ manual for all the servicing stamps and always check that the timing belt has been replaced at its designated time or you could find yourself with an expensive bill!
