Electric Fault Light - What Does It Mean?
The blog this week is based around what The Electrical Fault light illumination on your dashboard means. And what you need to do if this warning light comes on, on your Volvo or Toyota dashboard. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, along with increases in your weekly food shop, so following our tips should help avoid wasting your time and money. Read on to find out more:
This warning light can vary in different cars but normally it looks like a picture of a car battery. It is best to familiarise yourself with your cars warning lights through the owners manual. It will normally come on when you start your Volvo or Toyota but then it will go off – this is your Volvo or Toyota self test. If this light however comes on and stays on it could mean that the electrical charging system in your Volvo or Toyota is no longer working properly. The warning light is warning you of a problem or a potential problem. The charging mechanism for the car battery is the alternator. If the alternator is faulty or the drive belt to it snaps, then it will not be able to do its job. The longer you continue to drive your Volvo or Toyota, the more your car will use up the remaining juice/charge in the battery and eventually your Volvo or Toyota engine will die. The best thing for you to do is take action immediately – book your car in at your local independent garage – they will be able to check the fault codes that have come up and advise you accordingly as to the remedy. Do not wait until your Volvo or Toyota dies – you could face even more costs – such as towing (a minimum of £100) or being taken to a garage that is not your regular garage– which could be more expensive. Not to mention the inconvenience of being without a car or late for an appointment or work due to a breakdown. We cannot stress that preventative maintenance is always cheaper than reactive repairs. The same can be said for dealing with engine warning lights immediately before the issue becomes an expensive problem. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
