based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire. We like to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and
expensive car repair bills.

The blog this week is about what you can do to ensure your Volvo or Toyota is winter ready. As the nights get increasingly colder we want to ensure that
your Volvo or Toyota doesn’t struggle in the mornings. We need to lavish a bit of TLC on our vehicles to keep them in optimum health to get them through
the cold dark months.

When Did You Last Check Your Windscreen?

Making sure your windscreen is squeaky clean will help to prevent you getting that dazzling glare from the sun when it is sitting low. Its also handy to
carry some sunglasses in the car for this reason. Check for any chips or cracks also – not only could they result in an MOT failure but once a chip
starts to crack it’s a new windscreen – very expensive. In this cold weather a chip can easily turn into a crack. Getting your chip seen to is usually
free via your insurance – check your cover and check with companies offering this service. With the salt and grit on the roads its very easy for your
windscreen to become dirty fast – make sure that your wiper blades are not cracked or degrading and never use them without first freeing them off the
windscreen in icy weather. You could risk damaging them or burning out the motor.

When Did You Last Check Your Screen Wash?

As stated above, because of the grit and salt that will be used on our roads during the winter icy season you will find your windscreen gets dirty very
quickly. Make sure that your windscreen washer bottle is topped up with a good quality screen wash and carry a spare bottle of it in the boot of your
car – it is incredibly dangerous to drive with impaired vision. Do not just use straight water as you risk the water freezing in very cold temperatures.

Trouble Getting Into Your Volvo Or Toyota In Freezing Weather?

It is not uncommon to experience a problem opening your Volvo or Toyota in incredibly cold conditions – we have already experienced -8!!! The best thing
to do in preparation is to apply a thin coat of Vaseline to the rubber seals of your car doors. If you find that your locks are frozen squirt a bit
of WD40 – in terms of prevention squirt the locks beforehand. It is also worth noting – be very careful regarding leaving your car running to warm
up and de ice – many people fall foul to an opportunist car thief!
