ACC UK Ltd, Winners of The Independent Garage of the Year 2015, Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire like to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive
car repair bills.
The blog this week is based around holiday season in your Volvo or Toyota, which follows on from last weeks useful tips. The holiday season can sometimes
mean we experience high temperatures, increased stress levels and bigger demands on your Volvo or Toyota if you are driving to destinations around
the UK. Below is some helpful advice that may make things easier for you!

Volvo & Toyota Windscreen Glare
We have all experienced it.....dazzle from the sun can cause accidents, however you can reduce the effect it has on you by keeping your windscreen clean
and streak free! Also ensure that you have a pair of good quality sunglasses to hand and that your sun viser is working properly. Before you set off
on your holiday make sure that your washer bottle is topped up and your windscreen wipers are in good condition.
Taking Regular Breaks When Driving Your Volvo or Toyota
If you are planning a long journey it is advisable to plan in regular breaks along the way. By regular we mean stop for 20 minutes or so every three hours.
Get out of the car and stretch your legs. Make sure you are hydrated and never eat a large meal or drink alcohol either before starting your long journey
or at one of your breaks. If possible share the driving. If you feel really drowsey, then stop and take a short nap – but do not do this on the hard
shoulder – pull into a service station.
Driving Your Toyota or Volvo With Hayfever
Firstly make sure that the hayfever medication you take does not cause drowsiness – if it does then do not drive. To ease your symptoms keep the windows
and air vents closed to reduce the pollen grains from entering the car. Make sure you have tissues and sunglasses to hand. If you think you may sneeze
then slow down and hang back from the car in front of you because if you are driving at 70mph you could loose vision for up to 100m whilst your eyes
are closed when sneezing!
Smoking in Your Volvo or Toyota
If you’re a smoker, don’t just throw your cigarette out of the window when you’ve finished it. Put it out in the ashtray! Motorway verges and embankments
can become very dry during the hot summer months and a cigarette butt can start a grass fire. Do not park your car on long grass either as the heat
from the underside of the car may ignite the dry grass.
