ACC UK Ltd, Winners of The Independent Garage of the Year 2015, Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire like to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota
to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.

The blog this week is based around car costs when owning a Volvo or Toyota. Below are some helpful advice and things to consider that may make things easier
for you when purchasing a Volvo or Toyota!

Car running costs

  • Fuel Consumption & Car Tax– consider the fuel consumption of any car you’re looking to buy. The bigger the engine, the more fuel
it will use in general. Consider the types of journeys you will take and whether it’s a petrol or a diesel Volvo or Toyota that would be better
suited for your lifestyle. Also do some research to see how much car tax you will have to pay annually – this could make a real difference in your
annual costs of keeping your Volvo or Toyota on the road.
  • Careful driving– being gentle in accelerating and not driving quite as fast can reduce the amount of fuel you use in your Volvo or
Toyota significantly. See our previous blogs regarding fuel economy – it can make quite a big difference in your monthly fuel bill just by changing
    your driving habits.
  • Heavy items– don’t leave heavy things in the boot of your Volvo or Toyota such as your golf clubs – in fact de clutter the whole car.
Remove your roof racks and roof boxes when you are not using them. These affect the aerodynamics of your Volvo or Toyota meaning your engine will
be working harder than necessary. Remember the heavier your Volvo or Toyota, the more fuel it will use. Making small savings can amount to something
quite significant over the course of the year!
  • Insurance – shop around for comparison – your existing insurance company is not necessarily going to give you the best quote. It has
been known that insurance companies reserve their best deals to attract new customers and often expect their existing clients just to auto renew.
We have had many customers tell us that they have experienced this and have found that if they don’t renew but take the new policy from a price
comparison site it has often been cheaper. If using a price comparison site make sure you are comparing quotes that are like for like.
  • Shopping– you will find that supermarkets often have very competitive fuel prices, and often run money off vouchers when you spend
a certain amount in store on your food, along with being able to build up reward points to spend on other shopping. Take advantage of these when
they are running – sometimes these vouchers can be 5p off a litre of fuel – very handy when you are covering a lot of miles on a monthly basis.
