The motor company the RAC says that it costs on average around £472 to maintain a used car over the course of a year. This includes getting the MOT, and
any servicing and repairs required. Obviously this is an average cost. Some of your services will include things like Cam Belt Changes and some will
be a much more simplistic oil and filter change. It’s always wise to shop around for the best quote. You will also find that by using an Independent
Garage to carry out your service instead of a main dealer you will find there are big savings to be had. You are no longer required to take your car
to a main dealer in order to keep your warranties intact. As long as you adhere to the maintenance schedule and have genuine parts fitted then your
warranties will remain.
For a monthly fee, a used car warranty will cover certain repairs on your car, and may even include a service and MOT once a year. If you decide to take
out a warranty, make sure you’re clear on what it covers and what it doesn’t. We have had customers who have been ripped off with these so called warranties
and quite frankly they are not worth the paper they are written on – so buyer beware.
