Spring Driving Trips

The blog this week is about some tips to help you transition from Winter driving to Spring driving in your Volvo or Toyota. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring, insurance costs are rising etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. Read on to find out more:

1) If you have winter tyres on your car keep them on until the ambient temperature remains above 7 degrees. Parts of the country are still experiencing snowfall, and some mornings we still wake to find our windscreens need scraping from ice, so keep them on for a little longer. As we start to go through the freeze and thaw cycle potholes in roads increase as we are all experiencing on a daily basis! To protect your car from damage, try and avoid them when safe to do so. If you can, report them to your local council as soon as possible. Check your tyres regularly and keep them inflated to the correct ratios, this will not only help to protect your Volvo or Toyota from damage when you hit a pothole, it will also extend the life of your tyres saving you money.

2) Now the weather is starting to warm up and the mornings and evenings are getting lighter more and more cyclists and joggers will be taking to the roads and pavements Be aware at all times, when pulling out of roads check, check and check again before completing your manoeuvre. Make sure that you have full visibility through all of your windows before starting your journey! Also, some cyclists and runners listen to music/podcasts and may not hear you approaching from behind, when over taking them give them plenty of space and be aware of oncoming traffic. Be aware of puddles – some of them can be very deep and the spray on cyclists or pedestrians could know them over.

3) The warmer weather and the lighter evenings inevitably bring more children out. Be mindful that they are usually engrossed in chatting to their friends and distracted by their phones and may not be paying particular attention to what is going on around them. We have seen plenty of adults and children step into the road whilst engrossed in their phones. Also be aware that they may be listening to their music and may not hear you coming from behind, always slow down when approaching.

4) Now spring is coming, many animals will be coming out of hibernation. Be alert as they will not be. They will be groggy and busy thinking about looking for food. Slowdown in rural areas, as taking evasive action to avoid a collision at speed can be dangerous as can hitting an animal. Motorists have lost their lives doing both. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
