ACC UK Ltd, Winners of The Independent Garage of the Year 2015 & Inspire Customer Service Excellence 2016 Award, are Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists
based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire. We like to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and
expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is about ensuring you regularly service your Volvo or Toyota and pay particular notice to your Power Steering Fluid.
The Power Steering Fluid is there so that there is less effort needed by the driver to turn the steering wheel. For those of you who were too young to
drive in the early 90’s and before you will not know what it was like to drive a car without power steering. Your arms definitely got a work out! So
to suddenly loose your power steering can catch you off guard and an accident could potentially happen!

Having regular servicing on your Volvo or Toyota will ensure that your steering fluid levels are checked. Over time the fluid may become contaminated due
to wear and tear and small particles may get into the fluid and aid in the breakdown of hoses and seals. By following your Volvo or Toyota manufacturer
recommended service schedule you can help to maintain the components are kept in good condition and all the relevant systems used to operate and maintain
the hydraulic pressure in the power steering remain in tip top condition. You do not have to wait until your annual service. Check your Volvo or Toyota
handbook to locate the correct vessel and keep an eye on the levels – you can do this at the same time that you check your oil and coolant levels.
The more you get to know your Volvo or Toyota the quicker you will spot if something is not quite right – ie if you are regularly topping up the levels
you will soon identify that there is a problem and take preventative measures as opposed to not really knowing your vehicle and boom.....a rather more
costly problem occurs.
Always bear in mind that if you are topping up your fluids yourself that you are using the right ones for your Volvo or Toyota. Over filling can also cause
problems so be mindful of how much fluid you are pouring in. If you do find that you are regularly having to top up your fluids it could be an indication
of a leak or faulty hose. Take it to your local independent garage for further investigation.
