Here at Multi Award winning Independent Hampshire based Volvo and Toyota Garage ACC UK Ltd, we like to bring you weekly hints and top tips for maintaining
your Volvo or Toyota. These tips are aimed at helping you to avoid breakdowns and costly repair bills.

The blog this week is about helping to prevent starting issues with your Volvo or Toyota in cold weather. There are several reasons that you may find it
difficult to start your Volvo or Toyota in the cold ranging from battery issues through to oil and fuel problems. In much older vehicles the issue
may be the carburettor.

Cold Weather

Keeping your Volvo or Toyota warm will prevent cold weather starting issues, however we don’t all have the luxury of having a garage to keep our vehicles
in. And for some the garage is simply not big enough to get modern big vehicles in. If you have a car port, a bush or wall or a tree park by or under
them. Your car could be protected from the wind chill a little better then.

Ensure that you have the correct oil – your local independent garage will be putting in the correct oil during your routine servicing, however if
you are topping up during the year ensure that you are using the correct one for your Volvo or Toyota – you can find this information in your owners
handbook.

Keep your petrol/diesel topped up – don’t drive around on fumes – the sludge at the bottom of the tank could freeze or be dragged through the pipes
and freeze.

When starting your Volvo or Toyota in particularly cold weather ensure that you have switched everything off before starting the car such as heaters
etc. This way all the power will go to concentrating on starting the car.

During the winter months you may find it difficult to open your car doors – spread a little Vaseline around the rubber seals to prevent them from
freezing shut. You can also spray a little WD40 into the locks to prevent them from freezing also.

If you find that you are having frequent problems starting your Volvo or Toyota the best thing to do would be to take it to your local independent garage
for further investigation.
