Why Is My Windscreen Frozen Inside My Car?

The blog this week is about the reasons your windscreen is frozen on the inside of your car. This points to an underlying problem, one you should investigate. Our blog today will give you some information detailing what could cause this problem and tips to follow for an easier life during these cold snaps. Read on to find out more:

Ice forming on the inside of a windscreen in your Volvo or Toyota  is caused by exactly the same things that causes it on the outside of the windscreen - moisture and temperature. Therefore, when the interior temperature of your car drops any moisture in the air will condense and once it makes contact with cold glass it will then begin to freeze.

If this is happening to you and your Volvo or Toyota, you need to investigate what could be the problem. Simple explanations could be that a wet item has been left in the car such as a coat or a wet towel from the gym. Or you may have left a window open. If these are not the reasons, then there is the possibility that the drainage or ventilation systems within the car are not working properly. Check for wet carpets, blocked drain holes and broken or damaged seals around doors and windows.

A cheap way of reducing the moisture in your car is to leave an open tub of salt or cat litter in the car – these will soak up moisture. You can also use de-humidifier sachets or silica sachets but these need to be replaced regularly. You can always ask your local independent garage to check seals and drainage systems in your car because leaving these will only lead to more damage and more expense in putting it right – a mouldy car and rust issues spring to mind. Some people also experience issues with damp with their convertible cars. If you are having issues, it is worth getting the roof checked out by your local independent garage. Having damp issues with your car not only causes problems in the winter months – you can end up having fogged up windows during the summer months too. These problems will not rectify themselves – get your car checked out and deal with whatever arises before the situation becomes worse, and more expensive. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
