How Can You Stop Keyless Car Theft?

The blog this week is about how you can stop keyless car theft. With thefts of cars in this manner increasing there are things that you can do to help protect your property. We have seen so many posts on social media from security cameras and ring type doorbell recordings showing the thieves in action – the theft is so so quick. This problem is only going to get worse unless manufacturers can step up their game when it comes to thwarting the thief But, there are things that you can do right now until this technology comes. Read on to find out more:

Store your key fob away from household entry points. Not on a hook by the front door or a key tray on the hallway table. The further away they are from the house exterior, the harder it is for the thieves to pick up the signal.
Buy yourself a Faraday pouch. These are inexpensive (£3-£4) fabric pouches lined with a metal mesh that blocks the fob’s signal. There are Faraday boxes which cost around £15 or if you have a lidded tin like a biscuit tin you can pop your key fob in there.
If you have a garage, then park your car in there – out of sight out of mind!
Make sure that you have actually locked your Volvo or Toyota before walking away – some cars do not automatically lock when you walk away. You can also use one of the old-fashioned steering locks that we used to use back in the day. This could well be a visual deterrent to a thief!
Some cars’ systems can be deactivated, and some models will have received software updates that can improve security, so make sure your vehicle is up to date. Some manufacturers, such as Ford, have also developed new fobs that automatically power down to stop relay attacks.
