Warning Sounds To Listen Out For
The blog this week is about listening out for unusual sounds coming from your Volvo or Toyota. Not your everyday noises that all cars make but noises such as grinding, hissing, knocking and squealing – noises you don’t normally hear. These could be an indication that there is an issue that you need to address. Read on to find out more:
If you hear a hissing sound this could indicate an issue with the exhaust system, engine overheating or a blocked catalytic converter. Please take your car to your local independent garage for investigation. An overheating engine could end up costing you a lot of money if you ignore the possibility of a problem and continue to drive your Volvo or Toyota.
If you hear a squealing sound this could indicate that there is an issue with one or more of your belts. Your timing belt or fan belt may be damaged or worn. It is important to take your car to your local independent garage for further investigation – if your timing belt goes then you will be faced with a much bigger repair bill than the bill to replace it. Belts have a shelf life and when they have done their job they need replacing periodically. Don’t skip your servicing - preventative maintenance is always cheaper than reactive repairs.
A Knocking sound may be caused by an exhaust issue – broken clips etc. It’s worth getting it checked out before any further damage is done to the exhaust system.
A Grinding sound may indicate there is an issue with your clutch or your brakes. Again – take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage for further inspection. Burying your head in the sand will not make any of these issues disappear – they will just get worse and cost more to put right as you run the risk of causing further damage by still driving your car.
