Winter Checklist For Your Volvo or Toyota

The blog this week is about what things you should carry in your Volvo or Toyota this winter. Everyone is trying to save money at the moment, interest rates are rising, fuel bills are rising, food costs are soaring, insurance costs are rising etc so when it comes to owning a car, we need all the help we can get to keep costs down. Read on to find out more:
Before you set off on any kind of winter trip in your Volvo or Toyota, whether it be a Christmas road trip to visit the family on the other side of the country, a daily commute to and from work, or just popping out to the shops, we recommend that you keep the following essential items in your car now so that you are prepared for any eventuality. Here’s a handy checklist:
- Phone charger – handy to keep in the glovebox
- Ice scraper & screen wash – coming out to your car at the end of a long day at work you can often find your windscreen frozen. You will also be aware that you use way more screen wash in the winter than you do in the summer so can run out when you need it the most.
- Warm clothes like gloves & a coat to keep warm – you may have to wait a while at the side of the road for assistance – please do not wait in your car!
- Snow shovel to manage snow around tyres if you get stuck – they are compact so can be left in the boot
- Bottled water and non-perishable snacks – just in case you have a long wait for assistance – chocolate bar also if you have a diabetic emergency, or Lucozade is handy.
- Visibility aids like hi-vis jacket and a warning triangle – use these to help you be seen by other road users. If travelling abroad over the festive period in your car these things are mandatory so, please check the country you are travelling to/through for their rules.
- Car jack & locking wheel nut key should you need to change a tyre – not having your locking wheel nut with you can be a very expensive mistake – always keep it in your glovebox.
- Torch and batteries – very handy should you breakdown on an unlit road, but obviously be mindful of shining it at oncoming traffic – point the beam down
- Breakdown recovery details should be kept in your glovebox should you need to use them.
- Basic First-aid kit.
- Sunglasses – the sun can be low during the winter months and glare is an issue.
- Jump leads – these are very handy during the winter where you may need to use them more often. If you are having issues with your battery, see your local independent garage – it may need replacing or it could be a starter motor issue
- Good old-fashioned map just in case you can’t get your map function to work on your phone. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
